SOUTH COAST TRACK

Wild unspoilt wilderness, remote untouched beaches, rugged mountain ranges, pristine rivers, and towering rainforests – this is wilderness at its best.

Tasmania's South Coast Track is one of Australia's finest long-distance walks. On this guided South Coast Track trek you'll be carrying a full pack along the unspoiled wilderness of Australia's southernmost shores. The 85 kilometre walk offers a spectrum of Tasmanian scenes, from empty beaches to towering rainforests and the alpine heights of the Ironbound Range.

The South Coast Track is a place of wild scenes and wildlife, with the chance to see wombats, quolls and possibly even the orange-bellied parrot, one of the world's rarest bird species. After a spectacular flight along the coast or mountains to the remote airstrip at Melaleuca in the World Heritage-listed Southwest National Park, you will walk 10 to 15 kilometres each day, carrying up to 20 kilograms and camping at night. The walk has a flexible itinerary that allows for a rest day and time for swims or exploration along the succession of south-coast beaches.

Following in the footsteps of early Indigenous Australians and ancient seafarers - the South Coast Track was built as an escape route for shipwreck survivors - our knowledgeable guides will lead you through a true wilderness experience and the challenge of a lifetime. If you have a thirst for full pack hikes, have excellent fitness and an open, flexible approach to being in remote areas for multiple days then Tasmania's South Coast Track is the perfect hiking adventure for you.

What our guests say

The South Coast Track was an 9 day beauty pageant. Our guides, Jesse and Oscar, were true professionals. Their gear knowledge is unmeasurable. Their experience and guidance made for a super enjoyable trip.

So glad I chose Tasmanian Expeditions to facilitate this excellent experience. It was very enjoyable and as comfortable as a nine day hike gets. The guides were outstanding. Experienced, knowledgeable and just really nice people. They were well organised and skilled at managing us as a group to ensure everyone was looked after. The group members were also great company - chats never felt forced and everyone got along well.

This time the SCT ticked all the boxes, the weather, ground conditions, and been chest deep in water on day 8 crossing the Rivulet. Both Jesse and Oscar were totally professional, helpful and full of gear knowledge. And a bigger thanks to my fellow walkers who gave it 110% every day with whatever the weather or track throw at us and cracking the Iron Bounds in 9 hrs 40 mins without physically pushing ourselves. We cruised it for 'oldies"

Had an absolutely amazing experience on the Tassie South Coast Track with guides Bel and Jesse. Could not fault them for anything. This hike would be considered challenging by anyone’s standards but it didn’t feel like it at all with these two. Amazing support in every aspect from mental, physical, emotional - you name it. Top notch first aid skills and super chill under pressure - could not have been more happy with this incredible experience. The hike itself is just breathtaking and the experience added by guides and group only added to it. Thank you so much!!!!
